We are Christopher and Alexandra Homick
Running the NYC Marathon for Camp Shriver is a two-fold win for me. First, it gives me the opportunity to raise funds for an incredibly important organization and it also allows me to run the NYC Marathon alongside my sister, Alexandra.
Camp Shriver is a free summer sports camp for all children, which includes children with disabilities. Not only is it important for all children to have the chance to participate in sports and learn all the valuable tools that come along with sports, but it is also incredibly important for children to interact with other children from all walks of life. As adults, we are aware of the values that arise from interacting with different types of people, and so these experiences can’t start early enough.
Running and tennis are my sports and the lessons I’ve learned from them include determination, discipline, the will to continue against odds, and belief in myself. If I did not have the opportunity to participate in sports, I would not be who I am today. These have contributed to my success as both a person and a professional. So, it is my honor to raise funds in support of an organization to offer all children the opportunity to learn these same values with hopes they will be able to apply them to their lives holistically.
Second, my sister Alexandra and I share a special connection: we share a passion for running and becoming the best versions of ourselves. Last year, we had an amazing time together as we ran our first marathon in Philadelphia (that's us in the picture above right after we crossed the finished line!). We plan to run all of the world’s major marathons, so trust me - this won’t be the last you’ll hear from us.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your consideration of supporting Camp Shriver and my dream to run the NYC marathon alongside my sister. No amount is too small and your thoughtfulness and kindness will be remembered and appreciated.
Camp Shriver - where children can learn and play... as equals!
Today, children with disabilities are included in our schools, neighborhoods and communities. But what does inclusion really mean?
At Camp Shriver, inclusion means that every camper can learn and play together--every time and at every activity!
That's why since 2006, Camp Shriver at the University of Massachusetts Boston has welcomed children, 50% with and 50% without intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 8-12, from low income families in the Boston area to a free inclusive summer recreational camp.
All the funds raised will directly support over 150 children at Camp Shriver.
With your support, we will make sure that all children have an opportunity to play and learn together!
